Last weekend, three Marsden teams competed at the Underwater Hockey Central Zones held at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Kilbirnie.
A massive congratulations to our Junior MVPs, Emma and Poppy, and Senior MVP, Ari!
Well done to Sophie, Maddie and Poppy (from Juniors) and Charlotte C, Catherine, Milliann, Emily, Charlotte S and Isabel (from Seniors) who made the U18 trial team!
Seniors (written by Charlotte)
The senior team competed against teams from all over Wellington and the South Island. A highlight of the weekend was playing a range of competitive teams and placing 4th, qualifying us for nationals that are being held in Tauranga at the end of August. A big thank you to Courtney for supporting us pool side.
Marsden Blue (written by Maddie)
Centrals started off on Friday morning, when the two junior Marsden teams played each other, it was a tough game and both teams played very well, with Marsden Green winning.
We have a young team and we started playing for the first time in Term 2 so everyone has improved a lot.
We played teams that were the best in the competition like Nelson Girls College and Wellington Girls College and got close to beating them. We were so happy to get 5th and qualify for nationals in Mt Maunganui. Our last game was our best ever, with everyone working so well together and going out on a great win against Wellington High.
Great job to all of Marsden Blue, we should all be so proud of ourselves!
Marsden Green (written by Sophie and Hannah)
During the Underwater hockey centrals tournament this year the green team had a great time. On the first day of the tournament, we had four games. We went in with lots of energy and won all of them. It was a really cool experience playing together as a team and seeing almost everyone taking the puck on huge swims up the pool.
On Saturday we had some harder games including the game against Nelson who we’d never played before, but even though we were tired, everyone still gave it their all and came out of the games with huge smiles.
The last day on Sunday we had our final games, in our last game we had a super close match against Wellington East. We ended the game with a score of 3-2 ending up in 4th place. Even though we lost, everyone played really well and tried their best, with some incredible saves and defence, as well as some strong attacks.
We all worked so hard this tournament and had an amazing time with each other. We couldn’t have done so well if it weren’t for our amazing coach Charlotte who always puts so much energy into helping us do our best and played extremely well in the senior team at the tournament as well as coaching us and always supporting our team.
