Weekly Sports Roundup Tuesday 4 July 2023

The Weekly Sports Roundup is a chance for Marsden to highlight some of our many teams that compete weekly against other schools in the Wellington region. A range of teams from across the school will be chosen each week to provide a report about their game that week, as well as any other fun details about the team’s season.

Basketball - Junior B
This week’s game was against WGC – away at WGC.

Junior B is wonderfully supported by Tiffany and Amelia as their coaches. This week Tiffany was away, and Amelia took on the role of referee and I stepped in to assist the girls with subs and motivation.

The game this week was tough game for Junior B, WGC were a very strong attacking team this was evident in the first quarter where they came out very strong. Junior B really focused in the second quarter to strengthen their defensive play. Junior B gradually started to obtain some points in second and third quarter, however WGC were just too strong, and the final score was 18-52.

Junior B has continued to show determination, teamwork, resilience this term so far, they are continuing to build stronger communication, skills and techniques with the great training provided by their coaches. Junior B has also been supported by some wonderful Year 8 girls who have stepped in during the term to assist the team in games where some players have been unavailable.

Junior B is currently 2nd in Division 3 which is great result. Looking forward to the start of Term 3.

Netball - Senior C Netball
Senior C (25) vs against WEGC 8 (27)
The team started off strong, their connections through court were really starting to come along. And some strong defence right through the court was turning over some much needed ball. With the game going goal for goal our players really stepped up and showed their composure. Due to some team injuries and some early holidays, Olive, Jess and Charlotte all stepped up to fill in the gaps and slotted into the team perfectly. Unfortunately in the last 30 seconds of the game a 50/50 call didn’t go our way and WEGC got the last goal to secure their win.

A massive congrats to this team, you have been so adaptable throughout the season, with changes to your coaches and teammates game to game. You have all really stepped up and taken everything as it comes. Keep working hard and the results will start to go your way!

Netball - Junior B Netball
Junior B (LBD) vs WGC 19 (WBD)
Despite having to take a default for this game, the Junior B team really stepped their game up and started to show how well they can work together when they are having fun out on court.
Due to some early Saturday morning sickness we found ourselves short on players. But showing great support for each other I had players stepping up from the Junior As, Senior Cs, Senior Ds and even an old girl! Despite never having played together, all of these girls connected out on court and supported each other throughout the game.

A massive shout out to Jess who has been such an adaptable player this season. Moving from mid court into GD earlier in the season she has really taken on board all the feedback and grown her game massively. On Saturday we were down a shooter and she again stepped up to the challenge and played a great game in the shooting bib.
